Jacob Cook is a professional climber and mathematics professor, originally from the UK he now lives in Squamish BC with his wife and fellow Talent Uprising athlete Bronwyn Hodgins. Jacob has been climbing professionally for the past 15 years, reaching an elite level in the sport across many disciplines, but he is perhaps best known for his bold first ascents on some of the biggest and most remote walls in the world.

Together with his wife Bronwyn, the pair have pioneered multi-sport, human powered, first ascent expeditions to some of the biggest walls in the remote corners of the Arctic. In summer 2022, as a team of six friends they kayaked along the West coast of Greenland for 65 days and established first ascents on cliffs rising up to 900m out of the Arctic Ocean.

In 2019 Jacob and Bronwyn established a new route on the South Face of Mount Asgard in Auyuittuq national park on Baffin Island, Nunavut, before descending the Weasel River by white water packraft.

Jacob has climbed up to 14b sport and 13d trad, as well as free climbing Yosemite’s El Capitan 4 times, twice in under 24 hours. He completed his Phd in mathematics at the University of Leeds in England, focusing on the mathematics of infinity at the borderline of mathematical logic and philosophy. He has since worked as a professor at Quest University, Squamish and the University of British Columbia.

In recent years Jacob has been focused on blending the disciplines of big wall speed climbing and ultra endurance challenges, completing two 24 hour goals in Yosemite National Park:

- Free climbing Golden Gate (1000m 13b) on El Capitan in 22 hours in December 2024.

- Completing the infamous Yosemite Triple Crown challenge of linking up El Cap, Half Dome and Mount Watkins in 24 hours with Californian speed climber Brant Hysell in May 2025.
